Kleptomania: an irresistible impulse to steal, stemming from emotional disturbance rather than economic need.
Creptomania: an irresistible urge to get steals, stemming from an emotional need to get all the heat on feet.
We are extremely proud to announce that Hyprints takes part in its first exhibition, as part of the group show ‘Creptomania’ in Brighton, UK. The exhibition takes place at the Dynamite Gallery for the entire month of October.
Creptomania is an exhibition celebrating sneakers, that brings together works from creatives around the world – whether it be print, vinyl toys, woodworking, crochets, or any other medium. After organising other successful group shows, the owners of Dynamite Gallery (who are big sneakerheads themselves) have put together a show for sneaker art.
“What is it about the humble sneaker that has turned it into a cultural phenomenon? Is it comfort? The designs? The colours? The marketing hype?” was the question Daniel Owen and his partner Charlotte (the brains behind the show) asked themselves. “Obviously we all want to look good, and stand out from the crowd, but it’s these memories, and the warm glow inside we associate with these bits of leather, nylon, and rubber, that is the reason we keep coming back for more.“
For this exhibition, we have selected our Sneaker Anatomy series to put on display. The works of Hyprints can be admired in between a selection of other great pieces of art.
“One of the best stories so far relates to Hyprints’ Sneakerbrain piece. As we were preparing on the Friday of the show, an older gentleman knocked if he could have a look. His daughter had just completed a marathon, and he had seen the piece through the window, and he felt it totally related to the mental struggle of the marathon. It was great from our point of view as it proved that this exhibition was going to appeal to a wider audience than just sneakerheads.” as said by Daniel.
If you live or are around the Brighton area, this is definitely a must-visit. For now, enjoy the pictures below!
